A duet-in-progress from Recession Dances
After an intensive week long work session, Chelsey and Toby shared a new section of our latest work at an informal gathering. (Part of the section is here.) The work takes social dances from various cultures as its inspiration. This section draws from tango. The basic step appears here and there, but mostly I was after the tension present in the dance, an in many relationships, and pushing the idea of leading (controlling the dance) to a heightened degree.
I’m also presently looking at past recession eras and the arts and social outcomes of these eras. The musical choice if from 1931...need I explain? Let’s hope we don’t go there!
