SENIOR ARTS IN ACTION
A multi-arts program for senior populations, this program uses movement, music and writing to stimulate mind, body and spirit. Previous participants have reported increased range of motion and physical stability and a sense of enthusiasm and community from the program. Senior Arts in Action engages all participants in doing and creating from complete physically functional to wheel-chair bound.
We pair artists with physical therapists to address the specific needs of seniors at each location. Appropriate for senior centers, nursing homes, community centers, and retirement living communities. Programs lasting 8 weeks or longer often culminate in a performance of works created along with dances by Artichoke Dance Company.
PERFORMING PARTNERS
Performing Partners can be tailored to any population, but is often taught in grades 1-12. Focusing on movements that are performed with a partner or in a group, performing partners draws from an array of dance styles from Artichoke Dance Company’s contemporary dance partnering methods to social dance styles including swing and salsa. In addition to developing physical skills and understanding of the art form of dance, students build healthy trusting relationships with their peers. Performing Partners has been designed to address the New York City Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts and
provides quality instruction in an engaging and exciting learning environment. Appropriate and available for in school and
after school programs.
An introductory performance/lecture demonstration that describes the program and demonstrates what students will do and learn is available. Educational, informative, lively, participatory and affordable. Inquire about scheduling.
